Before & After Family Therapy

BEFORE

“We were fighting constantly. Every dinner ended in someone storming off. The kids were caught in the middle of our arguments.”

AFTER

“Last night we had dinner together and actually laughed. We learned how to disagree without it turning into a fight. The kids seem so much happier.”

The Martinez Family

BEFORE

“After my divorce, my kids were acting out and I didn’t know how to handle it alone. They were angry at me, at their dad, at everything.”

AFTER

“We can actually talk about their dad now without meltdowns. They’ve accepted the new normal and we’re building our own routines. I feel like a good mom again.”

Jennifer R., Single Parent

BEFORE

“Our blended family was a disaster. The kids didn’t get along, my partner and I disagreed on discipline, and nobody felt like a ‘real’ family.”

AFTER

“We have family game nights now. The kids still have their moments, but they actually hang out together sometimes. We feel like a team.”

Understanding Family Therapy

What Is Family Therapy?

Family therapy is a type of counseling that helps family members improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships. Instead of focusing on one person, we look at how the whole family system works together and identify patterns that may be causing problems.
Family therapy can involve parents, children, teens, step-parents, grandparents — whoever is part of your family unit. Sometimes the whole family attends together, and sometimes Jessica meets with different combinations (parents only, siblings, etc.) depending on what will be most helpful.

Family therapy helps with communication problems, frequent conflict, parenting disagreements, blended family challenges, divorce adjustment, grief and loss, behavioral issues with children, and major life transitions. It is also helpful when one family member is struggling and the whole family wants to support them.

Most families see meaningful improvements within 10-16 sessions. Some families need shorter-term support during a difficult transition, while others benefit from ongoing therapy to maintain healthy patterns. We regularly assess progress together and adjust as needed.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Sessions typically involve the whole family, though sometimes Jessica may meet with parents alone or children separately. You will discuss challenges, practice new communication skills, and work on specific goals. Jessica creates a safe space where everyone can share their perspective without judgment.
Not necessarily. While whole-family sessions are valuable, sometimes it is helpful to meet with just parents or just children. Jessica will recommend the best approach based on your family’s needs and goals. Flexibility is key.
Family therapy can still be helpful even if not everyone participates. Sometimes starting with those who are willing can create positive changes that encourage reluctant members to join later. We can discuss strategies for inviting resistant family members.
Individual therapy focuses on one person’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Family therapy looks at relationships, communication patterns, and how the family system functions as a whole. It addresses how family members influence each other and helps everyone work together toward change.
Yes. Often a child’s behavior is connected to family dynamics, stress, or communication patterns. Family therapy addresses the root causes and helps parents respond more effectively. The whole family learns to support positive changes
